INTRODUCTION
The
aura of the jury is universal. A group of strangers randomly selected
from the community has the power to decide the fate of an attorney’s
client. An attorney must convince them, for they will decide. In a
criminal trial, their decision is the difference between freedom and
incarceration, or even between life and death. Nothing is more
important. But who are these strangers? What makes an optimal juror?
An attorney must figure out which jurors will be sympathetic to his
client and his side of the case. Voir dire is the tool.
